What to do this summer ? By Madeline

We’re now about a month into summer vacation! June went by so fast! If you’re anything like me, you were very excited for school to let out. Now, even though vacation is great, the boredom is starting to set in. Here’s where I come in. I’m going to give you a few suggestions on things you can do during the summer. Always remember to get your parents’ permission.

Check out places you can volunteer. Soup kitchens, donation centers, libraries, etc. could always use your help. Scope the internet to see who you can help out.

Get a Job

This is only applicable if you're old enough. If you want to earn some cash, summer is a good time because you don’t have the responsibility of school. Check out the state laws and ask your parents to see if you can work.

Join a Summer Reading Program

A summer reading program is where the library gives you prizes for reading a certain amount of time. The Brown County Library started theirs on the 10th. Check to see if your local library has one. Programs are also available at some booksellers, like Barnes & Noble.

Learn a New Skill

Just because school is out doesn’t mean you can’t learn something new! Think of something you’ve always been interested in, and try it out. This could be anything, like an instrument, art, photography, language, etc. You could also just practice what you already know. I personally haven’t learned anything new yet, but I have been using this time to play the guitar more, read, and practice Spanish. Also, during the school year, iForward has plenty of classes to learn more about what you’re interested in.

I hope you’re enjoying your vacation!
