My background includes formal training at Northern Illinois University (B.S.) and a Master’s Degree with an emphasis in Physics education from UW-River Falls. The latter is where I was the recipient of the Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Graduate Student.
It has been my privilege to be selected as a National Fellow at various institutions in areas as broad as physics and chemistry textbook development, Materials Engineering STEM research, research at National Labs and National Science Foundation grant panels.
Successful performance in public schools at the secondary level has taken place over the course of three decades. When not in public education, I have created companies, one of which was a software firm with proprietary technology involving patents.
Another privilege has been the recent joining of Grantsburg and the iForward team. The District has been rightly acknowledged as a national leader in education for very good reasons. While your child can feel overwhelmed at times with the challenge of learning, rest assured that I feel every bit as challenged in making sure that your child has the best experience possible. It is my best intention to uphold the tradition of excellence for which Grantsburg is known and together, we will find a way to excel.
Here's what one of Mr. Cerveny's former students had to say about him:
“Mr.Cerveny [is] a wonderful teacher and great person overall. He has a way with teaching that captures the students’ curiosity and challenges the minds of those students. Being his senior assistant I really learned a lot from him. And I always enjoyed talking to him after class, or during my assistant hour…coming back and helping out around the lab was just a small way of thanking him for all he has done for me! I hope he realizes the impact he had, not just on me, but also for many other students. Coming back to that classroom is like a home away from home; he’s created such a welcoming environment and I think a lot of people can sense that. It’s rare to find a teacher like Mr.Cerveny—definitely a one-of-a-kind. Being able to have conversations and then joke and laugh about some silly chemistry joke is rare. His class lessons helped me get through school; his life lessons will stay with me for years to come. Thank you very much for setting me on the right path, for understanding my humor, and for seeing my potential. You have my utmost respect and I need you to know how much I’ve appreciated your lessons over the years. ‘If it doesn’t challenge you; it doesn’t change you,’”
